Established in 2022, Te Whare Maui Event Centre is the only venue of its kind in Hamilton. Proudly rooted in Te Kōhao Health's kaupapa of community wellbeing and service, we warmly welcome all cultures, communities, and groups. Our space is a uniquely Māori environment, adorned with carvings, pou, and Māori artwork throughout.

Set in a private, secure location with no sound restrictions, Te Whare Maui gives your event the freedom it deserves. With secure parking and versatile layouts, our venue has hosted weddings, conferences, 21st birthday celebrations, cultural competitions, fundraisers, and much more.   • Booking at Te Whare Maui starts with reserving your spaces for the day. From there, you can work directly with our Event Coordinator to begin shaping your event, or bring in your own creative team to take the lead. We provide the spaces, tables, chairs, lighting as standard, with a range of additional equipment and services available to build out your event further.

  • Te Whare Maui is a versatile Event Centre that welcomes a wide range of gatherings, from conferences and celebrations to weddings and cultural events. We take pride in hosting events that align with our kaupapa and community values.

    Please note that as an Event Centre, we are not a Theatre or Concert Hall, and may not be the right fit for all musical concerts or live productions. We always recommend getting in touch with our team to arrange a visit, so we can walk you through the space together and make sure it works for your event.

  • Te Whare Maui can accommodate a range of guest counts depending on the spaces selected and your event layout. Our Main Hall comfortably seats 250+ guests, with capacity varying based on table and seating arrangements. Whether you're hosting an intimate gathering or a larger celebration, our team can help you plan a layout that works for your event.

  • Yes. Te Whare Maui takes a flexible approach to vendors. Hirers are welcome to bring in any licensed and insured caterer, planner, florist, or creative partners of their choice. If you need recommendations, our team is happy to connect you with trusted suppliers from our network.

    Please note that lighting must be arranged through our approved lighting vendor. Get in touch with our team for details.

  • Alcohol is permitted at Te Whare Maui, provided prior written approval has been granted by Te Kōhao Health. The Hirer is responsible for obtaining all necessary permits and ensuring all relevant licensing and harm minimisation requirements are met. Where alcohol is present, harm minimisation strategies must be in place and no person under the influence of alcohol or drugs may perform any activity that may endanger others.

  • Yes, you are welcome to bring approved equipment and decorations to suit your event. Please note that our venue artwork and carvings are not to be removed or disturbed at any time.

    The use of adhesives, nails, or fixtures that may cause damage to the venue is not permitted, and we ask that you consult with our team before installing anything. All decorations must be set up and removed within your hire period. Pack-In and Pack-Out time is available for hire if you require additional time.

  • A Soundbooth Technician is an Add-On Service and must be arranged in advance through your Venue Hire Agreement. Without prior booking, we cannot guarantee technician availability on the day. Our team will be able to assist with Soundbooth set up but will not operate the booth during events unless this add-on is paid for.

  • The venue will be accessible during the times specified in your hire agreement. If additional time is needed for setup or pack-down, Pack-In and Pack-Out time is available for hire.
